Custom Web Design

All of the websites delivered by theFreelancer are custom built from the ground up. No templates are used in their construction. Each website is a bespoke product tailored for each client. The design of a website starts with in-depth discussion with the website owner about their business, what their aims for having a website are and what message and image they want to convey in their website. This ensures that each website is as unique as the business they represent.

Standards based web design

Websites designed and built by theFreelancer are built according to the standards set up by the world wide web consortium - W3C. This means correct use of Cascading Style Sheets, compliant markup, along with a complete seperation of style from content. To that end client websites are fully validated against the W3C guidelines and are built to work correctly in all modern browsers. Compliance with these standards also means that website should be future-proofed against newer browsers as they all become more standards compliant.

Search Engine Friendly web design

Wesbites are designed from the ground-up to be search engine friendly and are optimised for all on-site factors. Without giving too much away - this means that all onsite aspects of the website encourage spidering and ranking from the major search engines. All pages are easily indexable and all of the on-site factors are optimised right from the off to maximise the site's search engine potential.

Accessible web design

Where possible and where requested websites are built to whichever of the WAI/WCAG accessibility standards are asked for. This is a very specialised area as there are no automated tools which can guarantee an accessibility level. All websites should really be built to the 1A standard. theFreelancer has delivered websites up to 3A compliance and is able to run through all of the manual site checks to ensure this.

Modular Web Design

Each website is designed and built in a modular fashion. This makes it extremely easy to change the design and functionality of the website should the need arise. The seperation of function from the other elements of the website make the website much more versatile and easier to expand.

Lightweight Web Design

There have been many studies on user-interaction with websites and the most basic stumbling point for any website is loading times, recent studies show that if your page has not loaded within 8 seconds then you have probably lost that visitor. Check through the portfolio of websites to see how quickly the pages load. All pages, images, stylesheets, scripts and internal programming etc are optimised to keep loading times to a minimum and make sure pages load instantly.
